Fighting interruptions is like trying to stop the tide with a bucket? You're going to get wet, and you're going to look stupid doing it.
Research from the University of California, Irvine, shows that the cost of interruptions varies significantly based on task complexity.
Complex tasks can take up to 23 minutes to resume after an interruption. Simpler tasks have much lower resumption costs.
Think about that.
Every time you're interrupted during deep work, you're potentially losing 23 minutes. Harvard Business Review found that executives are interrupted every 4 minutes on average. They’re haemorrhaging productivity faster than a politician's promises evaporate after election day.
